A lot of people live life scared. They always want to make sure they make the responsible choice, that they don’t risk too much, that they will be secure. They are more woried about what could happen than what they will miss out on if they don’t live big.

My dad lived his life and enjoyed it. He took trips, and engaged in his passion for hiking and the wilderness – but he was always putting off his big trips “Till I retire” and working like mad to make sure he had enough money to do all these exciting things “When I retire”. Then in 2000, just a few years from retirement, he was diagnosed with Lung Cancer and given 3 months or so to live. He was super stubborn and underwent surgery and chemo and fought cancer long enough to do a few of the trips he wanted to – but not in the way he imagined.

Watching this happen to my dad changed my life forever. You could die or get injured at any moment with no notice no matter how safe and healthy you are – make sure your life counted. I’ve never heard of anyone saying “I wish I didn’t go on so many trips,” or “I wish I didn’t spend so much time with my family,” or “I really regret not working more hours every week” on their deathbed.

Focus on what you love to do – and what you want out of life. Ask yourself why it is that you want more money, or a better job, or that fancy car? is that thing the end, or just a means to the end you envision for yourself? I know a lot of people want more money, so they work extra hours, and miss out on time with their family – but if you ask them why they want more money they’ll say so they can be financially independent and spend more time with their family…

It’s not that working hard and making sacrifices and decisions isn’t important – I’m just saying make sure you understand why you’re making those decisions and that if you died tomorrow you wouldn’t regret them.

I am passionate about to helping as many people as possible live extraordinary lives of health and fitness, so I Co-Founded RhinoFit gym and CrossFit management software. I aim to help Trainers focus on training while we provide gym back office automation, and scheduling and billing software.

Supporting other fitness professionals is an amazingly rewarding task and I absolutely love helping coaches and trainers exceed their business goals. I would love to help you develop your warehouse gym from a hobby into a thriving fitness business, through innovative marketing, branding, website, and software solutions as well as one on one and group CrossFit Affiliate business coaching. I’ve been a CrossFit affiliate for a long time – you can benefit from my experience and avoid my mistakes and achieve your business and lifestyle goals.

Some people don’t want to spend years in the trenches working their butts off for almost no money as they learn the tricks and tips that make the difference between an average warehouse gym and an abundantly successful one. They want a little more guidance and coaching as they strive to make their affiliate as successful as possible in a short period of time. They want to learn from others mistakes rather than recreating them.

If that sounds like you – send me an email (adam@adammorden.com) and we can arrange a free strategy call to discuss your business and how I can help you become even more successful! No pressure, no pitching – just a chance for the 2 of us to talk about your business and help you get to the next level.

EMAIL TOOLS:

GETRESPONSE: Really good delivery and tracking, simple email creation and allows affiliate emails. Best part is you can send unlimited numbers of emails to your subscribers.

MAILCHIMP: Really nice interface and html emails. Great for newsletters but affiliate marketing is forbidden in the TOS and there is no Autoresponder available in the free version

AWEBBER: This is the grand-daddy of Auto responders

ADVERTISING/INTERNET MARKETING:

MARKET SAMURIA: This is a great tool for keyword research and organic seo. One of my favorite tools is their domain search which allows me to see what domains rank highest for certain keywords and where those keywords are (ie domain, page title, header, body, etc)

OPTIMIZE PRESS: This is a great wordpress theme that really simplifies the building of launch funnels, squeeze pages, sales pages, etc and results in really clean professional pages. Unlike a lot of themes, once you buy this one you can use it on an unlimited number of personal domains.

GOOGLE ANALYTICS: This is probably the best free tool out there for tracking and monitoring your websites, ads, and general internet traffic.

LEAD ROCKET: Simple WordPress Squeeze pages and auto-responder integration

PRODUCTIVITY:

GOOGLE DRIVE: A great Freemium product that allows you to access your files on any internet connected computer quickly and easily along with sharing and backup.

One of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to nutrition is the “but eating healthy costs too much – I can’t afford it” Bullshit. If you live in North America and have a job you can afford to eat healthy and nutritious food. If I heard that from a favela dweller in Rio it might actually be true, but we are blessed in North America with such abundance that we are all able to spend money on high quality food. But, as a rule, we don’t. In Canada we spent on average 6.4% of our income on food, and in the US that figure is even lower at 4.66% in 2010 (Source here) . That means for every dollar we earn, we spend less than a dime on our food. In contrast, the USDA reports that in 1945 we spent 20% of our income on food, and in 1990 that figure was still almost 12%. The cost of food in North America is a bargain compared to the rest of the world, and even to what we used to pay for food in North America. For example, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization says food consumption accounts for 45% of household expenses in Indonesia, 39% in China, and more than 13% in the United States.

But really, when it comes right down to it – how much is your health worth? and how much do you spend every week on unhealthy “nutrition” (Drinking and partying, eating junk food, etc) And if you really want to cut down your costs, go vegetarian - a whole foods based, completely balanced, organic vegetarian or vegan diet costs a fraction of a healthy meat eating diet. Another way to save costs for quality food is buying direct from a farm or joining a CSA (Community Shared Agriculture). Why? Statistics from the Canadian Federation of Agriculture show retail prices have skyrocketed in the county in the past decade, but the prices farmers charge have remained relatively the same.

I have found that when someone would like some nutritional advice it is most efficient and successful if we we start by having them track what they have been/are typically eating for about a week. This allows me to get a sense for your current habits, as well as favorite foods and how the food they are eating is effecting them.

Key points to track are:

Meal

Time

Feeling before

Feeling after

Energy level

Sleep

Under each of those headings include as much information as possible, for example under “Meal” include all ingredients, how it was prepared, amounts of ingredients if known, what you drank with the meal, etc. For the “Feeling before”, and “Feeling after” headings I want to know both if you are hungry, or full, bloated or lean, happy or sad, and any other feelings you are experiencing before or after eating respectively. “Energy level” would be a 1 – 10 scale with 1 being you are unable to rouse yourself and only want to lay in bed, and 10 being so full of energy you could run several marathons back to back and just don’t want to stop moving. “Sleep” refers to both the quality of your sleep the previous evening, as well as the quantity. I would also like to know if your sleep was interrupted, or if you had an easy or difficult time going to sleep.

In addition to the above information (which is a lot I know), I would also like to know about any current or past health concerns as these can be effected by or affect your nutrition.

Tracking serves two main purposes. First, the simple act of being cognizant of what we are eating often has a positive effect on what we eat. Second, when a person tracks all these variables, patterns tend to emerge, and these patterns will help you tailor your nutritional strategies to find what is optimal for you. As much as I would like it to be the case, Nutrition is not a one size fits all prescription. There are so many individual variations that in order to be optimally effective nutritional programs should be customized.

I just read an article on yahoo about juicing and blending foods. it is quite informative about the differences, but lacked a few points about the underlying purposes, benefits, and pitfalls of juicing and blending your food.

Juicing is a great way to extract the majority of vitamins, minerals, and raw enzymes from produce and making them extremely digestible. This however poses a problem. Because juicing removes the majority of fiber and increases the speed at which the nutrients from the food reach your blood stream, Juicing produce tends (not in all but in many cases) to dramatically increase the insulin spiking activity of the produce that is being juiced, and one of the major issues I’ve see with the the hundreds of vegetarian and vegan athletes I have had the opportunity to work with is a lack of insulin stability (they tend to have high then low insulin responses all day fluctuating extremely quickly, which is far from optimal for both performance and health).

Bending on the other hand does not result in as extreme a change in the insulin producing ability of produce.

I have found far more success, both personally and professionally as a strength and conditioning coach, from eating my food as opposed to drinking it.

I hated highschool – it was super boring and felt like a huge waste of time. I didn’t really like the people at my school and didn’t really seem to share their interests. When I’d go to class it seamed like all we would do was read a few pages of a textbook written way below my reading level and then regurgitate sentences from it back to the teacher in the form of answers. I wasn’t bad at school, I passed all my courses, and even got A’s in a few without attending more than 1 class a week. I just didn’t care. I wasn’t motivated at all. It was funny, because I love learning new things and skills – I just couldn’t stand the environment. It also felt like I wasn’t learning any skills that would actually help me in the real world. I would have had a lot more interest learning how to really think – maybe a basic critical philosophy course, or even the basics of personal financial management rather than reading Shakespeare (not that I don’t like Shakespeare – I loved seeing his plays performed at Stratford, but watching a movie in English class seems like a waste of time to me).

If this sounds like you or someone you know I have 2 really simple pieces of advice: First, DO NOT drop out – it’s a huge hassle and will cause you all kinds of headaches later on. Instead, go write your GED test. If you think high school is too easy and you could be doing and learning better things – go write the test. If you pass you’re done, if you fail you need to stay in school and learn the basics because even if you think you know them – you obviously don’t. Second, keep learning. if you get your GED early apply for university or another form of continuing education. While I hated high school I really enjoyed university – the ability to select your own path of study, and really delve into specific subjects makes it far more interesting.

I can’t stress it enough that lifelong learning is the only true path to success – the second you stop improving yourself, you build a wall in front of you that will prevent you from achieving what you are capable of. Learning doesn’t have to mean school, it can if that’s how you like to learn, it also includes on the job training, reading books (I try to read at least 1 a week), taking courses, even trial and error. You can’t fail if you never quit and you take any setback as an opportunity to learn from your mistakes and improve for next time.
